Pave the Wheelchair Accessible "BLOOM Where You are Planted" Garden area. 

"BLOOM Where You are Planted" brings Lenawee County 4-H youth and students of varying disabilities together to explore and experience the wonders of gardens and nature together. 

Your contribution will help to fund new paving for the asphalt paths making accessibility for “BLOOM Where You are Planted” participants barrier free. 

4-H teens spend the summer mentoring individuals with disabilities, engaging them in hands-on learning in the BLOOM raised bed garden. The BLOOM program enables youth with disabilities to enter the natural environment and experience gardening without physical barriers while developing social skills through one-on-one mentoring with their peers. BLOOM also teaches youth to plant, maintain, and harvest raised garden beds at Hidden Lake Gardens. Finally, BLOOM also aims to educate 4-H teen mentors with one-on-one engagement with youth with disabilities resulting in increased sensitivity and understanding while building relationships through cooperative teamwork. 

Paving the BLOOM Garden Area

Funds raised will support the greatly needed repaving of the deteriorating asphalt surface in the BLOOM gardening area ensuring accessibility for program participants utilizing wheelchairs, canes, and walkers, plus creating a safer pedestrian surface for all. 

Who We Are

BLOOM is a collaboration of MSU’s Hidden Lake Gardens, MSU Extension and Lenawee County 4-H, and the Lenawee Intermediate School District. Hidden Lake Gardens is a 755-acre public garden in Lenawee County, Michigan. Our mission is to preserve and enhance our gardens and arboretum designed to educate and inspire the public to the beauty and values of plants and nature.
