Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration, Stuff the Library

Logo that says "Reclaiming our Democracy, Demanding Social Justice, Good Trouble."Imagine a world where all children can see themselves in the pages of a book. Imagine a world where books can be windows to learn about other cultures, critical contributors to our world, and movements that have helped to shape our nation.

This year, the MSU Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration Planning Committee is hosting a virtual Stuff the Library event as a component of the week’s celebration. Our goal is to raise awareness, promote books with a diverse representation of people and topics, and to get books into the hands of children in Ingham County and the surrounding area ages 0-18, partnering with local schools and organizations.

Give to Stuff the Library (MSU MLK Day Event) and help buy 200 or more children’s and teen books featuring diverse characters, stories, and authors to enrich the lives of local school children. While raising $2,500 is our goal, the more donations we receive, the more books we can provide to local students!

The Stuff the Library project will increase the number of books which have diverse representation of characters, stories, and authors available to local school children pre-school through high school. There will also be a volunteer component of this project where students, alumni, faculty and staff can video themselves reading or reviewing a donated book.

Who We Are

We are members of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration Planning Committee. The MSU Center for Community Engaged Learning, MSU WorkLife Office, MSU Libraries and WKAR are heading up this donation and volunteering effort as representatives of the MLK Commemorative Celebration Planning Committee.

Donate children and teen books with a diverse representation of characters, stories, and authors to enrich local children’s and teen’s lives in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration honoring this year’s theme of Good Trouble: Reclaiming Our Democracy, Demanding Social Justice, inspired by John Lewis.
