Help Provide Scholarships for MSU FAME Students
FAME, Fostering Academics Mentoring Excellence, is a community program in the School of Social Work at MSU that serves students who have experienced foster care, kinship care, legal guardianship, and homelessness. Since our founding in 2007, FAME has provided resources and programming to assist students in achieving their academic and personal goals and to prevent barriers to retention and graduation. We serve around 75 students each year and work directly with students to provide a wide range of services.
How You CAN Make a Difference
FAME students need the support of their Spartan family more than ever. Each summer, FAME offers scholarships to our students to cover the costs of summer classes. Taking summer classes is an essential part of the academic timeline for many FAME students. For some, they need the additional credits to stay on track for graduation within the five-year financial aid eligibility window, or they need to remain housed on campus because that is the safest and best option for them to be successful. Due to the way financial aid is distributed, these students face a significant financial burden during the summer months. FAME students begin to apply during the spring semester through an application process. Our goal is to be able to provide 10 students with summer scholarships this year.
Who We Are
The FAME Program is a community program of the MSU School of Social Work and is staffed and supported by social work faculty and students. We provide students with impactful programing like life skills coaching, mentoring, trainings and workshops, social events, peer support AND community building, leadership skill development, and more. The unique community programs model emphasizes service delivery, teaching and research. Read more about our team here.
