Alt-text

Every image in Sitecore must be accompanied by alt-text that describes the image. Not using alt-text is a violation of ADA. Alt-text should be 150 characters or less. AI tools can be a helpful in writing clear, concise alt-text for images.

Best practice: upload images in the Media > Image folder via content editor and add alt-text, which will be retained across all uses of the images on a site. Images uploaded directly through page builder do not retain alt-text.

Image Prep

In general, keep photo subjects centered horizontally with some top vertical space. Many of the components will automatically crop images at smaller screen sizes. Avoid images with text overlays.

Best practice: Preview pages and drag the window to different sizes to get a sense of how images appear on smaller screens. Adjust as needed. Once published, check the page on a desktop and a mobile device. Adjust as needed.
