THE SEASON OF GIVING. AND GIVING THANKS

Thanks for Giving Luncheon celebrates faculty, staff and retiree support

The university commemorated the role of faculty, staff and retiree donors at the annual Thanks for Giving Luncheon on October 4, 2021, at the Kellogg Center.

The annual event is underwritten by the MSU Federal Credit Union to thank those who qualified for Leadership Circle by making donations totaling $1,000 or more during the previous fiscal year or are members of a lifetime giving society. Nearly 3,000 MSU faculty, staff, and retiree donors were invited to attend.

Collectively, faculty, staff and retiree donors gave nearly $21 million to support MSU students and programs across the campus in fiscal year 2021, which was 9 percent of the $232 million given to MSU by all donors.

In the 2021 Council for Aid to Education Survey, for universities that reported on faculty, staff and retiree giving, MSU ranked second in the Big Ten and seventh among all the 62 member institutions in the Association of American Universities.

“Being in the top 10 for faculty, staff, and retiree giving among our peers in the AAU is a great accomplishment,” said President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. who spoke at the event. “That means that other universities are likely looking at us to figure out what the secret is.”

He added: “Through your philanthropy and your support of the programs and causes that matter to you, you are leading by example, modeling a behavior we hope all of our donors and supporters will take on.

“You’re also showing the world that you believe in your institution, and trust that your treasure will support the greater good in the same way that your time and your talents do.”
