Elevating Spartans through scholarships

Scholarship giving on Give Green Day creates a bright future for many students

MSU students face the future with an uncommon will—a defining aspect of the Spartan spirit. To support this uncommon will to succeed, scholarships can make all the difference to Spartans on their journey to advance the common good, achieve great things and make a difference in the world.

On Give Green Day, your gift to scholarships will elevate Spartans and help them create a bright future for all. Not only do scholarships provide the resources necessary for students’ academic pursuits, but they also inspire excellence, enhance the student experience and provide a strong foundation for their future careers.

For students like Maria Skidmore, a scholarship means her dreams are possible. Maria grew up in a family devoted to music. She started violin at age four, piano at age seven and picked up guitar along the way. At 12, she added composition to the mix after meeting Oscar winner Howard Shore—the composer for “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” film trilogies. As a recipient of the Doris H. Dahl and Norman Huver Endowed Scholarship for Orchestra, she knows being a Spartan will help her shape a career in music.

“I was very thankful to receive the scholarship,” says Maria. “It’s wonderful to think that someone would be interested in investing in me as I grow my musical career and become the elite musician I want to be.”
