WKAR Family Reading Kits
Michigan faces a literacy crisis. The number of Michigan third graders who failed the state's standardized reading test and are eligible to be held back increased this year to 5.8% as did the number of test takers, according to data from Michigan State University researchers.
The WKAR Family Initiative is dedicated to fostering a culture of literacy across mid-Michigan. Since 2018, in partnership with community organizations, WKAR Family has provided over 50,000 new and engaging books for children ranging from birth to high school seniors.
