MSU Entrepreneurs’ Trip to SXSW
Entrepreneurship is the development of a business from the ground up. To be successful, it takes determination, a willingness to take risk, and a burning passion for your product or service. Here at Michigan State University, we look to cultivate these traits with an abundance of resources and a thriving community.
This year we hope to send a driven team to South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. www.sxsw.com
The South by Southwest (SXSW) Conferences & Festivals offer the unique convergence of original music, independent films, and emerging technologies. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW is the premier destination for discovery.
For the last 3 years, we have had an MSU team in the top 8 finalists in the country in the Student Startup Madness competition, a challenge to all universities in the country. A highlight from last year was when one of our student teams ran into Mark Cuban in a restaurant and was able to pitch their idea to him.
Your Support Will Make a Big Difference
Year after year, the event is a launching pad for new creative content. New media presentations, music showcases and film screenings provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences. Conference panel discussions present a forum for learning. Business activity thrives at the trade shows and global networking opportunities abound. Intellectual and creative intermingling among industry leaders continues to spark new ideas and carve the path for the future of each ever-evolving field, long after the event’s conclusion.
The opportunities, connections, and experiences that come from this event not only are unforgettable but invaluable to the professional advancement of our entrepreneurs.
Funds donated to this campaign will go toward fuel to get back and forth to SXSW in Austin, TX, badges for the Interactive portion of SXSW, housing at the event, and food for the ride and while at the event.
The MSU Startup Bus will be our main means of transportation for the 2,700 mile round trip (two days each way). Our 1994 Bluebird School Bus, was converted by the students and now has six bunk beds, a bathroom, kitchen, seating for 15, and a wood floor.
We took the bus along with ten students last year and all came back with so many connections, suggestions on their companies, and an energy that was brought back to other Michigan State students.
Who We Are
