Support Our Spartans (S0S)
There are times when emergencies and urgent demands arise that we aren’t financially prepared to take on. The Support Our Spartans (SOS) Students Emergency Needs Fund was created to provide students with immediate financial support to cover educational costs and unanticipated expenses during crises such as accidents, illness, death of a family member, fire damage or need for temporary housing.
The 2022-23 academic year brought devastating hardships to our Spartan community. Many of our students turned to the SOS Fund to help cover costs for lost work, travel home, food, temporary housing, etc. These requests for support resulted in an increased demand for funding to cover the influx of student need. Holding true to MSU’s dedication to advancing Student Success, the SOS Emergency Fund is committed to removing hardships and barriers to Spartans whenever possible.
In the 2022-23 academic year, we awarded just over 400 students with financial assistance for a total of $630,000.
Thank you to all who have previously given to the Support our Spartans (SOS) Student Emergency Needs Fund. Your gifts have made it possible for students to overcome hardships, continue their education, and walk across the graduation stage
A donation to the SOS Emergency Fund can turn an unforeseen moment of crisis into a moment of unexpected generosity for a fellow Spartan. Support during times like these can “make or break” a student’s financial position and create the opportunity to remove potential roadblocks on the path to graduation.
I cannot overstate the importance of the SOS fund for students like me who face financial challenges that are beyond our control. The funds has been a lifeline that has helped me state afloat during times of financial uncertainty and enabled me to continue pursuing my education without sacrificing my well-being or academic performance. I am deeply grateful for the support that the SOS fund has provided me, and I hope that it will continue to help other students in need for years to come. - Kennedi
