Supply Chain Management (SCM) Student Experience Fund
As our Broad College Supply Chain Management students get ready to move from undergraduate studies and begin their careers or continue as MSU graduate students while in the workplace as active Supply Chain professionals, there are many experiences (e.g., deep learning/certification in an area, hands-on exposure to new technology, etc.) that cannot always be delivered in the classroom. Many students want to invest their time into these experiences but discover that there may be financial barriers that cannot easily be overcome.
The SCM Student Experience Fund would create a source of funds that our almost 900 students across all Supply Chain programs could access to support developmental co-curricular experiences. These funds would be used to sponsor program-wide access to identified experiences and/or targeted support for those students with a specific financial need.
Give to the Supply Chain Management Student Experience Fund and Help Support the Experiential Development Needs of Our SCM Students
The SCM Student Experience Fund enables students to defray expenses in obtaining certifications (e.g., green belt), allow undergraduates participate in organized alternative spring break trips (sponsored by the Supply Chain Management Association), attend industry conferences such as CSCMP or ISM, or fund departmental workshops on important topics like additive manufacturing. Further, this fund can provide support for those students suffering financial hardship in the form of scholarships for tuition, books and course materials, technology needs, living expenses, or helping undergraduates get ready for the all-important interview cycle.
The Department of Supply Chain Management
The SCM Department is recognized around the world as home to both the #1 undergraduate and #1 Graduate Supply Chain Management Programs in the country. Our rankings are long standing: 9 years as the #1 undergraduate and three years as the #1 graduate program. As Broad College faculty and staff, we see the amazing commitment our SCM students have in preparing for their careers and representing MSU in the workplace. We would like to have a funding mechanism to help those students who are investing in themselves outside the classroom.
Give Green Day/Day of Giving is a 24-hour campaign to engage Spartans and friends across the world in giving back to support students at Michigan State. There are dozens of projects and programs asking for donations in a range from $2,500 to $50,000. Most of MSU’s colleges and many of the university funds are involved. Supply Chain will be part of the MSU community harnessing the power of social media and word-of-mouth to spread the word. Last year hundreds of individuals supported these causes through their social networks. The day takes advantage of the timing of Giving Tuesday, a global day of philanthropy, following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
