Support the MSU Family Stress Lab Autism Research

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) impacts the entire family. The Family Stress Lab at Michigan State University is working to understand the unique benefits and challenges of having a family member with ASD. We are particularly interested in the experiences of siblings because less is known about their experiences in comparison to the experiences of parents. We are currently conducting two studies with siblings of individuals with ASD, one focused on teenage siblings (and parents) and one focused on young adult siblings. It is our goal to one day be able to use this information to develop programs that help siblings and parents cope with stressors in adaptive ways that result in positive outcomes for all members of the family.

Your Support Will Make a Big Difference

Your support will allow us to continue this valuable research so that we can understand the needs of siblings and parents of children with ASD and share what we learn with others!

These gifts will also provide important educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students seeking to gain research skills and professional experience working with families of children with ASD. Our alumni have gone on to pursue careers as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapists, counselors, and medical doctors.

Project Budget

Funds raised will support our research projects so that we can better understand the experiences of siblings and families of children with ASD and share what we learn with others!

Who We Are

The Family Stress Lab is directed by Dr. Amy K. Nuttall, an assistant professor specializing in how children and families cope with stress and how these experiences shape development across the lifespan. Dr. Nuttall works directly with graduate and undergraduate researchers who are equally passionate about supporting families, understanding ASD, and impacting lives through research!
