P. Lea Martinez started her career as a nightshift nurse and rose to become a vice president of a hospital system. Having a BSN and an MBA degree provided the knowledge background to become a successful hospital administrator. Lea, as a professional in the nation’s leading healthcare systems, demonstrated the highest standards of caring by treating patients, co-workers, and students with respect and dignity.

The P. Lea Martinez Scholarship provides an opportunity for current graduate student conducting research on health issues among Latino/as.

The Julian Samora Research Institute (JSRI) is the premier Latino research institute in the Midwest with a history of research on Latino communities, farmworkers and their families, farmers, and youth. Its mission is the generation, dissemination, and application of knowledge to serve the needs of Latino communities in the Midwest and across the nation, with emphases on health disparities, entrepreneurship, and service delivery system gaps.
