Support OMEA Latino Student Success Initiatives
OMEA—The Office of Multicultural Enrichment and Advocacy, formally known as the Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions, has been a champion for Student Success and belonging at Michigan State University since our inception in 1969. OMEA works collaboratively with CRU (Culturas de las Razas Unidas) Latino Student Organization and other MSU Departments to coordinate inclusive, responsive and proactive programming for the campus community. Below is a list of high-impact initiatives your gifts help to support.
Give to OMEA Latino Student Success Initiatives and provide our students with the help they need to matriculate and graduate from MSU!
Gifts can help support the purchase of supplies and materials for events and programs, as well as provide resources for education abroad opportunities, conference attendance, meal vouchers, textbooks and other student expenses.
Who We Are
LWC - The Latino Welcome Celebration provides new, transfer and returning Latino students with an opportunity to experience the Latino atmosphere at MSU by learning about campus involvement and resources to help them achieve success in college. This event helps new students’ network with other students, faculty & staff, providing an easier transition into college and thereby increasing their chance for success. Additionally, the Latino Welcome Celebration encourages current students to strengthen their bonds with campus community members and campus organizations to build community and develop a strong sense of belonging. This celebration consists of music, raffles, student organizations, informational tables & other activities.
LSMP – The Latino Student Mentoring Program makes college an exciting, fulfilling and successful experience to increase retention and graduation of Latino students. LSMP aims to ease the academic and social transition from high school to college for first-year students by connecting them to a mentor and connecting them to resources that help with adjustment.
LUMI - Latinos Unidos Male Initiative hosts monthly activities to help Latino men develop the skills and knowledge needed to foster academic success; establish a support network; and increase graduation/retention rates.
DDLM - The Día de la Mujer Leadership and Empowerment Conference is coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Enrichment and Advocacy (OMEA) and C.R.U. It is a one-day conference that has become a source of education and development for the many hundreds of people it attracts each year. DDLM provides an environment where learning and networking connections are made for employment and educational opportunities for Michigan Latinos.
LAG - The Latino Achievement Gala is a celebration that takes place at the end of the academic year to celebrate the graduation and accomplishments of Latino students and organizations.
CRU - Culturas de las Razas Unidas is the Umbrella Latino Organization on campus. It represents the Latino student voice and hosts large scale events to bring awareness to issues affecting the Latino community and provide a cross cultural learning opportunity to the larger campus community. CRU also hosts biweekly meetings to equip and empower students with the skills and knowledge needed to foster academic success; establish a community network; increase graduation/retention; and strengthen a sense of community among all MSU students who self-identify as Latinx, Latine, Hispanic or Latino/a.
Your support helps us keep these programs strong so we help all our students succeed!
