Newaygo County 4-H

As part of the largest youth development organization in Michigan, Newaygo County 4-H provides youth with hands-on learning opportunities to explore new interests and discover their passion. 4-H members in Newaygo County can connect with their peers and volunteers through traditional 4-H Clubs, participation in the county fair, and leadership opportunities at the county, state, and national level.

4-H also has a positive impact on the Newaygo County community through in-school programming, afterschool programming, community events, and petting zoos. The support from the community has always helped drive life changing experiences for youth in Newaygo County. With your support we further expanding those opportunities for young people in Newaygo County without passing this cost on to the youth involved.

Your Support Will Make a Big Difference

MSU Extension recently announced the elimination of the $20 4-H Participation Fee that was charged to youth annually to participate in programming. This allows youth to join 4-H for FREE! While this is great news, a portion of the 4-H Participation Fee, approximately $2,500 annually, was used to support Newaygo County 4-H programs. This fee allowed us to offer many programs for free or at a reduced cost to families in our community. Your contribution will help close this new funding gap for our local community programs and allow us to continue offering a variety of Newaygo County programming for the 2022-2023 4-H program year.

Newaygo County 4-H Programs in Need of Support

Your financial support will provide us the opportunity to purchase program supplies, offer local events, and provide training to volunteers. It will assist youth as they learn about leadership, teamwork, responsibility, resiliency, and problem solving through technology and engineering, animal science, food and nutrition, gardening, environmental science, crafts, and other activities!

Budgets for each program are carefully constructed to make programs accessible for all participants. With your support, these programs will assist in reaching a broader audience which in return, will give more youth a rich educational experience. Your contribution will allow us to continue offering free and low-cost programs such as:

  • Support supplies for 4-H SPIN Clubs, in school and after school programming, and camps. Previous topics have included Marine Biology, Healthy & Nutrition, Crafts Around the World, Philanthropy, Project FISH, Veterinary Science and more!
  • Scholarships for youth to attend trips such as 4-H Capitol Experience in Lansing to experience state government in action and 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus where participants learn about our nation’s government by participating in hands-on leadership workshops and touring historical sites in Washington, DC.
  • Support equipment and supplies for 4-H clubs, such as curricula, printing, and other resources.
  • Additional county workshops for both youth and volunteers.
  • Awards and recognition for both youth and volunteers.
