MSU Community Music School – East Lansing

For nearly 30 years, the MSU Community Music School-East Lansing (CMS) has been transforming the lives of people of all ages and abilities through high-quality music education and music therapy services. This year, the COVID-19 crisis drastically impacted CMS and the thousands of students we serve each year. To ensure music-making and instruction could be provided to our community in a safe and healthy manner, CMS quickly moved to an entirely virtual model.

During this time of constant change and uncertainty, one thing became clear: Music Matters. CMS faculty, staff, and students developed new and creative ways to teach, learn, and collaborate online because making music mattered – for human interaction, self-expression, mental health, sense of normalcy, uniting within our community, and more.

As a self-sustaining organization, CMS relies heavily on tuition dollars that come from the enrollment of students to cover the costs necessary to remain functional. While the doors to our facility remain closed, we are still committed to making music education and music therapy possible. Join us in exemplifying how Music Matters to our community and provide COVID relief support to CMS.

Music Matters

CMS recognizes that Music Matters for so many reasons and believes that all people should have the opportunity to experience such benefits offered through music and music therapy. Even though music making does not currently look as it has in the past, we will keep moving forward with offering creative online music programs and resume in-person activities when safe to do so. Private gifts from individuals like you will ensure that CMS continues to provide music-making for our community.
