Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)

MSU CAPS is the primary mental health center for MSU students. It is our goal to help connect every student to the care they need to be successful and healthy. We offer psychiatric services for students in need, but only the first three visits are subsidized (paid for by the university). Thus, any additional psychiatric visits require the student utilizing their health insurance, or paying out of pocket. For many students, this creates a potential barrier (e.g., some students do not have health insurance; some students cannot afford the co-payment if they do have health insurance; some students may choose to forgo services even if they have health insurance because they do not want their parents to know they are receiving the help they need).

Give to Counseling and Psychiatric Services and for every $150, help a student receive an additional needed psychiatric care visit for their needed treatment.

Funds will be used to pay for psychiatric care that is not funded by university allocations.

Who We Are

College is filled with excitement, learning, and new experiences. It is also a time when students will be challenged and may feel uncertain, lost, overwhelmed, or down.

We are here to help. CAPS is committed to providing and connecting MSU students to a wide array of services and resources to address mental health concerns. These may include short-term individual counseling, telehealth counseling, medication, or referrals to other services
