College Assistance Migrant Program Scholars Initiative (CAMP)
MSU CAMP Scholars at Michigan State University are first-generation, low-income students who do not have financial support from their families. A typical farmworker family of five in the United States makes approximately $12,000 per year placing them well under the U.S. poverty level. Because of this disadvantage, most CAMP Scholars hold one or more jobs throughout college to support themselves financially and to send money home to contribute towards their family’s income. It is also difficult for students to leave home for college. A large percentage of our students travel over 1,000 miles from their hometown just to have the opportunity for a brighter future. Although CAMP Scholars have to work more diligently and proactively throughout their undergraduate years, it does not stop our students from graduation.
Give to MSU CAMP and provide our students with the resources they need be successful!
Funds will be used for academic and transitional purposes for those in good academic standing with the University. This includes expenses like tuition, room and board, textbooks, essential testing costs, basic need support and emergency travel. Students must have completed one full year of full-time study at MSU, be full-time students, have financial need and show academic achievement.
Who We Are
The MSU CAMP Scholars Initiative is a program offered by the department of Migrant Student Services at Michigan State University. The CAMP Scholars Initiative is an educational program that offers individuals with migrant or seasonal farm worker backgrounds, a unique opportunity to begin an undergraduate program in MSU. This program offers the best conditions in order to help our population of students. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Michigan State University’s College Assistance Migrant Program was initiated in 2000 and is a unique program designed to service incoming migrant and seasonal farm worker students at Michigan State University.
The College Assistance Migrant Program is within the Migrant Student Services department at Michigan State University. MSU CAMP has been providing services to farmworker students since the year 2000 and has proudly supported over 1000 CAMP Scholars for 25 years! CAMP currently has over 250 students enrolled. With your donation, continuing CAMP Scholars will have a better opportunity to reach graduation. The MSU CAMP team is comprised of MSU CAMP Alumni who have graduated and serve as direct role models to current and future students.
