Lesbian Legacies: Supporting research, activism and artistic activities
Special Collections at the Michigan State Libraries is the repository for a wonderful array of lesbian and womyn’s archival materials. They now include the archives of the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival, Goldenrod Music, and many other organizations, along with the personal papers of important members of the lesbian community, including those of Penny Gardner, Terri Jewell and Anne E. Tracy, who have lived or worked in Michigan. These materials are available for study, but only at MSU.
Purple, a nonprofit fostering lesbian and womyn’s community, has created and actualized the Endowment for Lesbian Legacies: Amazon Cultural/Political Activism in Second Wave Feminism to help make these collections known and accessible to researchers of our herstory. MSU will make grants funded by the endowment for the travel expenses of successful applicants who plan to make use of these materials.
Your Support Will Help Preserve History
As the scope of this collection grows, so does the scope of research opportunities that rely on these materials. With your help, we will raise funds to better promote, preserve, and make these materials accessible. This is a key collection that provides insight into the activism of lesbian and feminist womyn who have made their voices heard throughout the past decades.
Your support will help us create opportunities for researchers to travel and use these collections for research, activism, and artistic activities, and to support the preservation of these materials that shed light into the early moments of a cultural movement.
Each gift to the Lesbian Legacies: Amazon Cultural/Political Activism in Second Wave Feminism Endowment Fund will be used to fund travel fellowships and other opportunities for researchers to utilize the collection for research, activism, and artistic activities, as well as the acquisition of new materials.
