Jeremy Swiatek Man of Honor Memorial Scholarship

Jeremy Swiatek was the epitome of what it meant to be a brother. Not just in his family, but amongst friends and strangers alike. Jeremy balanced his work, academics, fraternity, philanthropy, and everything else he immersed himself in without breaking a sweat. He loved all aspects of his life, and gave no less than 110% to anything he was invested in.

Headshot of Jeremy Swiatek at Spartan StadiumJeremy was born in Naperville, Illinois, and grew up in the northwestern suburbs. He graduated from Plano High School, where he was Treasurer of his class, an honor roll student, and a football player. Jeremy is remembered most by his high school friends for his sense of humor, easy-going attitude, and the level of compassion he had for others. Growing up, he always exhibited an intellectual curiosity and determination to learn about the world and his surroundings in an ongoing effort to be a better person.

Jeremy's selflessness was best illustrated by the close relationships he held with family and friends. He seized every opportunity he had to see his younger brother and sister. Jeremy never let a friendship go to waste and would always be sure to catch up with his childhood friends when he had the chance. Anyone that knew him would agree that he was the epitome of a loving brother and friend.

Coming to Michigan State for his Civil Engineering degree, he immediately dove into greek life by rushing Phi Kappa Sigma’s Beta Delta chapter in the fall of 2014. He was initiated into the Eta class and wasted no time taking up roles. Through his four years in the fraternity, Jeremy served as rush chair, fundraising chair, education chair, and Vice President.

Moving into the chapter’s house in fall of 2016, Jeremy boosted morale like it was his job. He would be the first face you’d see smiling at you as you entered the new house, and he made sure of it because he treated the chapter house as if it were his own. One summer he even repainted the walls and refinished the hardwood floors because he wanted it to be updated for the coming semester. This altruism was Jeremy’s trademark.

During the week he would spend time mentoring brothers in the fraternity who needed academic assistance and invite anyone who was around to gather for a meal. On the weekends, he could be found volunteering his morning to community philanthropy put on by Phi Kappa Sigma, spending his afternoon working at MSU’s Greenline, and leading brothers—both new and old—to downtown East Lansing in the evening.

Jeremy balanced his life and marched to the beat of his own drum, but not without bringing everyone along for the ride. The scholarship that has been established is to preserve his commitment to brotherhood, humility, respect, and selflessness: the cornerstones of a Man of Honor.

Support Phi Kappa Sigma, in honor of Jeremy

This scholarship will directly benefit active brothers of the Beta Delta chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity who are in good standing and receive recommendation by the Phi Kappa Sigma alumni chapter executive board. The award is meant to ease the burden of membership and housing, allowing brothers the opportunity to have the full brotherhood experience that Jeremy would have wanted for all.

Fulfillment of this scholarship will ensure that Jeremy’s legacy is forever preserved at MSU and benefit the brothers of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity for years to come.
