FAME Program

The Fostering Academics, Mentoring Excellence (FAME) program at MSU is a resource center for students who were in foster care, kinship care, have experienced homelessness, or are otherwise independent. Despite their unwavering resiliency, many FAME students have been negatively impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Many are not able to leave their on-campus homes and face increased challenges associated with transitioning to remote learning environments. This public health emergency has also eliminated many jobs these students depend on to meet their basic needs.

Give to MSU FAME and Help Support Spartans in Need

During this uncertain time, when resources are changing and isolation is necessary, FAME students need the support of their Spartan community more than ever. We are working to provide each of our students with the care and support they need, but additional resources are needed. Gifts will directly support FAME students by helping provide a wide range of enhanced services, including:

  • scholarships and basic needs support
  • assistance with remote learning
  • life skills coaching
  • mentoring
  • trainings and workshops
  • peer support AND community building
  • leadership skill development

Who We Are

The FAME Program is a community program of the MSU School of Social Work and is staffed and supported by social work faculty and students. The unique community programs model emphasizes service delivery, teaching and research. Under the supervision of a full-time faculty coordinator, graduate and undergraduate social work students work directly with FAME students as part of their field placement. All undergraduate MSU students with a qualifying lived experience are eligible to participate in the FAME program. Learn more about the students we serve here at https://alumni.msu.edu/stay-informed/magazine/article.cfm?id=2685
