Dr. Susan M. Gass Scholarship Fund

Dr. Susan Gass, longtime faculty member

For decades, Dr. Susan M. Gass has served Michigan State University and its students. An award-winning University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages, Dr. Gass has elevated the study of languages at MSU through her teaching and research in Second Language Acquisition. She has formerly served as Director of the English Language Center, Co-Director of the Center for Language Education and Research, Co-Director of the Center for Language Teaching Advancement, and Director of the Second Language Studies Ph.D. Program. Her dedication to this subject and to her profession is matched only by her masterful ability to teach and connect with her students. Dr. Gass has served as President of the International Association of Applied Linguistics and is the current Editor of Studies in Second Language Acquisition. She is a teacher, a researcher, a highly published author, and a true leader in the advancement of language studies here at MSU and abroad.

In honor of Dr. Susan M. Gass, Michigan State University and the Second Language Studies program intend to establish the Dr. Susan M. Gass Scholarship Fund. The fund honors Professor Gass' tremendous legacy of scholarship, leadership, and student mentorship over the years. Donations to the fund will support graduate student professional development, including activities such as conference travel, the hosting of workshops, events, and more.
