Support the Demonstration Hall Commemorative Plaza

Historical Demonstration Hall has been a Michigan State University landmark, and the home of MSU Army ROTC for almost a century. An aging exterior and lack of signage around “Dem Hall” bely the proud history of the cadets, students, and veterans who have called it home. This collaboration will upgrade the flagpole area at Dem Hall with a commemorative plaza and historical signage worthy of the proud history of these Spartans.

Thanks to a generous Veterans Day challenge gift from Army ROTC Spartans Alumni Board President Kevin J. Doyle, LTC (Ret), and CPT Catherine Doyle (Spartan Battalion ’12), gifts made to the Dem Hall Commemorative Plaza project have been matched dollar-for-dollar, up $5,000. While those matching funds have been fully used, due to the success of our Veterans Day campaign, we also have an additional challenge gift from Alumni Board Vice President Capt. Nate Walker (Spartan Battalion ’10), who will match gifts up to $1,000. There is still time to double your impact!

Rendering of new plazaThe plaza will consist of a beautiful brick and concrete path outside the main entrance of Dem Hall. Two benches will flank the plaza entrance from Kalamazoo street. Historical signage will be installed facing the sidewalk, detailing the history and importance of Dem Hall. Spotlights will be installed around the flagpole to light up the American flag 24/7.

Give to the Dem Hall Plaza Project and be a part of history.

To make this dream a reality, we need your support! We hope to raise enough funds to begin construction in Fall 2021.

You can support with a gift of any amount.

  • For a gift of $500+, engrave your message on an 8in. x 8in. brick in the plaza.
  • For a gift of $250-$499, engrave your message on a 4in. x 8in. brick in the plaza.
  • For a gift of $100-$249, receive a special commemorative coin from the Army ROTC Spartans in appreciation of your efforts to help make this dream a reality.

*Matching gift money will not be counted towards your total gift amount for recognition on bricks or commemorative coins. Brick ordering information will be sent to qualifying donors at a later date.

Who We Are

The Army ROTC Spartans are an affinity group of alumni, family and friends of the MSU Army ROTC Spartan Battalion.

The mission of the Army ROTC Spartans is to: provide opportunities for Spartans to find, engage and network with fellow Spartan Battalion alumni (Connect); create and participate in service initiatives connected to causes Spartans care about in their local community (Serve); and support current and future Spartans with the gifts of time, insight, connections, and financial assistance by contributing to the recruitment of students and the funding of scholarships and gifts at Michigan State University and the Army ROTC program (Invest).
