CVM Student Emergency Assistance Fund

Every year, we have students who face emergencies and they turn to the college for help. That’s why the college established a Student Emergency Assistance Fund: to provide money for students in need of support.

Just this year an out-of-state student came to MSU prepared to begin her studies in the DVM program. She had found an apartment online and signed a lease. However, when she got to East Lansing, the pictures she had seen of the apartment did not match the reality of the situation. In fact, the building was condemned within two weeks of her moving in. She had to find something else immediately and had no money for a deposit. Thankfully, the Student Emergency Fund provided the support she needed.

Current Resource for Students

The Emergency Fund provides up to $5,000, in the form of a loan, for students in need. The loan has a 0% interest rate and is due within 60 days, making it truly for emergencies. When the unexpected happens and students need short-term help to get through it, the Emergency Fund provides that help.

Project Budget

Already this year, we are seeing more demand for support from the Emergency Fund. From housing needs to medical expenses not covered by insurance, to laptops that crashed, to food for the family of a student parent, the Emergency Fund has been a source of desperately needed money for so many students.

Because costs have increased significantly, especially in housing, this year the maximum amount granted was increased from $2,500 to $5,000.

With your help we can make sure funds are available for any emergency.
