Be a Lifeline for ComArtSci Graduate Students
Our graduate students are the heart of innovation and research in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, but many face significant financial hurdles, particularly during the summer months when assistantships are unavailable. Whether it’s the cost of basic needs like food, transportation, or housing, these challenges can quickly spiral into overwhelming burdens, forcing students to make tough choices between continuing their education and addressing immediate crises.
With the increasing number of emergency fellowship requests, it’s clear that our students need more support. The current system can leave them waiting for weeks—sometimes months—for assistance, while limiting the type and frequency of aid available. This is why we are launching a crucial crowdfunding campaign to raise $5,000, which will go directly to a dedicated emergency fund for ComArtSci graduate students. This fund will provide rapid, flexible financial relief to students facing unexpected hardships, filling the gaps left by traditional fellowships.
Your Support Will Make a Big Difference
Your contribution today will make an immediate impact, but the need extends beyond this campaign. If you’re passionate about making a lasting difference in the lives of our students, we invite you to connect with our Development Officer to discuss how you can help sustain this effort through a significant gift. Every donation, large or small, brings us one step closer to ensuring that financial hardship never stands in the way of our students' success.
Project Budget
Examples of expenses for which emergency funds could be available include (but are not limited to):
- Groceries
- Emergency medication when the student has no ability to pay and the costs cannot be covered by insurance
- Emergency temporary lodging for students who find themselves homeless or unsafe in their current dwelling
- One month’s utility bills for water and electricity
- Personal belongings lost in a fire, flood, or other disaster impacting a student’s home
