MSU College of Music Student and Ensemble Travel Fund
The power and beauty of MSU Music is a window to the university. Supporting student travel increases the visibility, outreach, and impact of MSU Music through performance and community engagement on campus and beyond.
Your Support Will Make a Big Difference
Student travel funding builds MSU and the College of Music's reputation and provides significant experiences that foster student success. These funds provide recurring support for activities that enhance student and ensemble travel to engage in high-profile learning experiences, including:
- Student travel to compete, perform, or present at peer-reviewed conferences.
- Ensemble travel to perform at peer-reviewed conferences and festivals, as well as prestigious venues around the world.
- Professional development opportunities such as master classes or study abroad experiences.
How Does Travel Support Impact Students?
Travel funds positively impact all areas within in the College of Music. In April of 2022, financial support allowed the MSU Jazz Studies area to travel to New York City to compete in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Jack Rudin Competition, where they not only took first place, but swept multiple individual performance categories as well.
Without additional financial support, many music students do not have the ability to attend such prestigious competitions, peer-reviewed conferences, and once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunities. Through these experiences, students build professional networks, hone and showcase their skills, and expand their musical horizons.
Who We Are
The MSU College of Music’s mission is to provide the highest quality professional instruction; to instill in students a dedication and desire to achieve excellence and understanding in all aspects of their musical education; to develop their abilities to the highest professional standards; to expand cultural awareness and diversity; to provide access for comprehensive non-degree instruction; to participate in community, state, regional, national and international arenas through service, teaching, research and performance; and to support an excellent faculty vitally engaged in significant research, scholarly and creative endeavors.
