Suport the Eric ‘RicStar’ Winter Music Therapy Camp—MSU Community Music School

The Eric ‘RicStar’ Winter Music Therapy Camp at the Michigan State University Community Music School, aka RicStar’s Camp, has provided six days of inclusive summer-camp access to almost 2,000 individuals benefitting from the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social benefits of music therapy.

We are proud to say that no one has been denied access to camp because of financial need, age, or disability. Few camp participants have access to the arts prior to attending RicStar’s Camp, which includes firsthand music making, dance and movement, and the chance to perform at our end-of-week Be-A-Star Showcase. More than half of our campers require financial aid to attend RicStar’s Camp.

Give to The Eric ‘RicStar’ Winter Music Therapy Camp and Help

Eric 'RicStar' WinterPrivate support from individuals and foundations allowed camp co-founders Dick and Judy Winter to set about healing from the devastating loss of the camp’s namesake, Eric Richard Winter (pictured to the right), who had cerebral palsy and a gift for music. Through this support they were able to realize Eric’s heartfelt dream of attending a music summer camp.

Two decades later, we have impacted hundreds of families and friends, future educators, physicians, music therapists, and parents new to the world of disability. The profound lessons we experience during the six days of this camp continue throughout the year, positively impacting several Michigan communities and Canada, leading to valuable change regarding perceptions of the value and abilities of those with disabilities. Funds given in support of RicStar’s Camp go directly toward financial assistance for campers and programmatic costs. Your gift will support us in celebrating this milestone anniversary and help us continue to provide campers with the rare opportunity to experience the power of music and the arts and lasting friendships firsthand.
