SUPPORT THE PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT
The Department’s distinctive practice of philosophy is “Engaged Philosophy”, which is a practice of philosophy that uses philosophical methods, resources, and elements of traditional areas of philosophy to help address practical issues of concern to society at large and to disciplines outside of philosophy. The Department aims to expand philosophy’s traditional agenda in order to make the field more richly responsive to the multitude of voices and values in human communities. This requires engaging philosophical reflection with the problems and resources of other disciplines, and grappling with pressing problems, both theoretical and practical.
