MSU Spartans come together on giving days to support students

Starting with fall’s OneBigWeek—a joint effort of MSU and our fellow Big Ten institutions—through Pride Month in June, Spartans came together to show their collective impact during seminal events across the calendar year.

Each year in March, thousands of Spartans around the world come together on Give Green Day—a 24-hour, social media-driven campaign in which alumni clubs, as well as university faculty, staff, students and community members connect with their networks to spread the word about supporting MSU. Throughout the day and night, donors throw their support and their enthusiasm behind dozens of crowdfunding projects that make a difference for students and programs.

This year $1,287,700 was raised from 5,758 donors—the fourth consecutive year that the campaign surpassed $1 million. Over the past seven years, Give Green Day, and the campaign has raised $7,195,584. Next year’s campaign will take place on March 12, 2024.

Last year, these other very green days, supported MSU students:

  • OneBig Week: 611 donors gave $38,300+ to support the Student Food Bank.
  • Veterans Day: 421 donors gave $39,400+ to support the Student Veterans Resource Center as well as other programs and scholarships serving the Spartan veteran community.
  • Giving Tuesday: 1,817 donors gave $414,000+ to support causes and initiatives university-wide.
  • Black History Month: 139 donors gave $6,000+ to support initiatives promoting a culture of belonging at MSU and honoring the rich history of Black Spartans.
  • Earth Day: 187 donors gave $10,900+ to support people and programs at MSU building a more sustainable future.
  • Pride Month: 83 donors gave $9,400+ to support students engaged with the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center at MSU.
