MSU's Give Green Day 2023 Yields $1.28M In Support

More than $143K raised for Spartan Strong Fund

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023 Michigan State University’s annual #GiveGreenDay campaign raised $1,287,700 in support for students and programs at the university.

The results mark the fourth year in a row that the annual 24-hour, social media-driven campaign has surpassed $1 million.

Notably, this year’s campaign netted more than $143,000 for the Spartan Strong fund, a fund created to provide support for the evolving needs of the individuals most critically impacted by the violence the MSU community experienced on February 13. The initiative was highlighted by WILX with stories and a phone bank during the station’s news broadcasts on the day.

The MSU Federal Credit Union was the official Give Green Day sponsor, proving matching funds that encouraged new donors to participate.

Of the 5,378 gifts made during the campaign, nearly 18% percent of gifts were made by individuals giving to MSU for the first time.

Gifts originated from 47 states in the U.S., and 13 countries.

Throughout the day and night, alumni clubs worldwide as well as university faculty, staff and students connected with Spartans to spread the word about dozens of crowdfunding projects, and each of MSU’s colleges encouraged support for important initiatives and needs.

Overall, more than 65% percent of the gifts came from MSU alumni.
