Michigan State University continues annual one-day giving blitz

Give Green Day—Tuesday, March 14, 2023—is a one-day giving campaign when Spartans and friends of Michigan State come together to support students.

The event is held each year in March, and traditionally encourages gifts to scholarship funds and programs that directly benefit students and other community members in need.

This year, after the tragedy that took place on the night of Feb. 13 at MSU, the university is also encouraging gifts to two funds that are helping to support those who have been impacted.

The Spartan Strong  fund was created to provide support individuals most critically impacted, as their needs emerge today and in the future. The fund also supports counseling services, campus safety, and recognition for first responders.

The Support Our Spartans (SOS) student emergency needs fund is an existing fund that assists students with unexpected financial hardships—including the loss of a job or transportation or housing issues.

This year, WILX will join the effort to lift up the Spartan community and raise funds for the Spartan Strong Fund on Give Green Day. Through the station’s Make an Impact Initiative, there will be a variety of stories on all of their news broadcasts highlighting healing and how Spartans all over the country have shown up in support of students and our community.

“Over the past weeks, the MSU community has been embraced and uplifted by incredible gestures of kindness, friendship, and generosity,” said Teresa K. Woodruff, MSU’s interim president. “We haven’t had to ask for help. Instead, you’ve been asking: “How can I help?”

The MSU Federal Credit Union is returning as the official Give Green Day sponsor, providing matching funds that will be used to encourage first-time or new donors to participate.

“MSUFCU is proud to partner with MSU during Give Green Day this year. We hope to encourage giving from others who will come alongside and invest in the programs, services and scholarships that support students in areas of greatest need and significant impact,” said April Clobes, President & CEO MSUFCU
