Gender and Sexuality Campus Center (GSCC) Unconditional Love Fund

The Unconditional Love Fund was created to provide students who engage with the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center with flexible assistance in a timely manner to address extraordinary and unexpected financial hardships.

Funds are available to students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses due to temporary hardship related to unforeseen or emergency situations. This funding does not need to be repaid. Financial awards are made available to assist students with expenses that support their health, wellness, and safety.

Double the Impact

Dr. Keelung Hong has offered to generously match the first $5,000 made to GSCC’s Unconditional Love Fund! Through Dr. Hong’s philanthropic partnership with Michigan State University, he has ensured that his late husband, Stephen O. Murray’s, legacy will continue to inspire and uplift future generations of Spartans.

Your Support Makes a Big Difference.

With your help, students engaged with the GSCC will be able to cover essential physical health, emotional wellness, and academic expenses (other than tuition).

$500 = First month rent for a student who has been cut-off
$250 = Books for a student whose parents won't pay for LGBTQIA2S+ studies texts
$100 = One night in a hotel for a student who is fleeing an abusive home
$80 = Groceries to get a student by until pay day
$35 = Bus pass for a student whose family took their car away
$20 = Insurance co-pay so a student can access a needed medication
$10 = Transgender student can replace the cosmetics that were thrown away by their family

During the 2023-24 academic year, the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center distributed over $34,000 to students in need.

"I do not have a financial support system in place to fall back onto because my parents do not accept that I am queer. So, this fund was just what I needed during my lowest point this year. I plan to contribute to this fund once I have the means to because it had such a positive impact on my life." - Past ULF recipient, College of Social Science, class of 2026

Who We Are

The Gender and Sexuality Campus Center is a student-centered campus resource that works to celebrate, affirm, and empower LGBTQIA2S+ members of the Michigan State University community. Through education, engagement, advocacy, and student support, we work to create an inclusive campus culture for people of all genders and sexual identities. We provide intersectional educational and social programming and collaborate with student leaders and campus partners to build community and increase a sense of belonging.
