Support the Sherrod F. Johnson Legacy Campaign to $50K!

The Sherrod F. Johnson Endowed Scholarship (SFJES) was established in 2022 by the family of Sherrod Fitzgerald Johnson, a devoted Michigan State University alum following his untimely passing. The Johnson family is committed to continuing Sherrod’s legacy of scholastic excellence, academic achievement, and love for Michigan State University by assisting collegiate students through a scholarship named in his honor. The endowment will fund The Sherrod F. Johnson Endowed Scholarship and will help MSU students continue their education by reducing economic barriers. Mr. Johnson transitioned on Saturday, February 26, 2022. However, his legacy will continue to make a collective impact at Michigan State University through the Sherrod F. Johnson Endowed Scholarship.

Black and white photo of Sherrod Johnson in a tuxedo. The Sherrod F. Johnson Endowed Scholarship was created to provide two categorical awards to (1) graduate(s) of Flint Hamady High School (or students from Flint) attending Michigan State University and (2) current member(s) of “THEE Delta Pi” Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated committed to the core values of the fraternity.

These awards will be provided based on the student(s) demonstrated leadership, commitment to the City of Flint, and commitment to advancing and diversifying the field of engineering. As a child, Sherrod was identified as academically gifted and continued to excel in his scolastic achievements by graduating with honors from Hamady High School in Flint, Michigan. Sherrod later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University.

The scholarship fund will continue to benefit Spartans in perpetuity.

The Sherrod F. Johnson Endowed Scholarship Committee desires to ensure students have access to the financial resources needed to fulfill their dream of receiving a quality education and college degree from Michigan State University.

The scholarship will be available for full-time undergraduate students at Michigan State University, and to honor his legacy, scholarship applications will be available annually on Sherrod F. Johnson’s birthday, March 8.

Imagine a future where students can eventually be awarded "full tuition" from this endowed fund, all due to the actions we take today. The goal for this inaugural campaign is to raise $50,000 as we build upon the legacy of Sherrod F. Johnson.
