Support the MSU Department of Physiology’s Reflection Room
Creating an inclusive space to accommodate personal and spiritual needs of the thousands of students, faculty, staff, and visitors that roam the hallways of the Biomedical & Physical Sciences (BPS) Building is important. Intentional spaces can balance a diversity of religious, spiritual, and meditative practices and allow individuals to exercise those expressions without disruption. Unlike other buildings on campus, a room dedicated solely to personal quiet space does not exist in the BPS Building.
Your contribution will support the overall physical and mental health of our campus!
The purpose of the Reflection Room is to ensure that all Michigan State University students, staff, faculty, and visitors have convenient access to a private room in the BPS Building for the purposes of meditation, prayer, contemplation, emotional solace, and reflection by individuals or small groups. Moreover, it will also serve as backup space for a lactation room to provide privacy for nursing.
Project Budget Initiatives
The money raised will be used towards the cost of turning the empty room of 3203 in the BPS Building into a inclusive reflection space. This includes: remove existing flooring; prep and paint all walls and door frame; replace the existing door slab with a solid slab (no window) including sound seals for privacy; modify the casework in the adjacent Room 3200 to accommodate a new doorway; install a new door, frame and hardware; install an operable partition to create two separate spaces; rework the existing suspended ceiling to accommodate the operable partition; install a hand washing sink and base cabinets; install soap dispensers and waste receptacles; modify the HVAC ductwork, grilles and diffusers; replace existing lighting with dimmable LED lighting; provide temporary storage cubbies; and revise room signage.
The estimated cost from MSU Infrastructure, Planning, and Facilities department is $85,000. The Colleges of Human Medicine and Natural Science have each committed to funding 20 percent, or $17,000 each, of the project. It leaves a remaining balance of $51,000.
Meet the Team!
