MSU Campus Sustainability
Our collective future depends on our ability to be innovative and creative, and to tran
slate good ideas into solutions that improve quality of life, build our economy, and strengthen our communities in a sustainable manner. Michigan State University is rising to the challenge by unlocking the potential of today’s students to become tomorrow’s leaders whose innovations and dedication will address intractable problems such as climate change, global poverty and inequality, natural resource depletion, and environmental degradation through new thinking, technologies, strategies and approaches.
Engaging students in critical thinking and problem solving around sustainability is a key part of MSU Sustainability in Action. Often bright ideas and creativity can be fueled by small amounts of funding support. The Campus Sustainability Student Projects Fund (CSSPF) creates that opportunity and provides hands-on learning
opportunities for students to address sustainability challenges with food, water, energy, air and climate, buildings, recreation, transportation, waste and more.
Give to the Campus Sustainability Student Projects Fund to fund student-led projects and develop tomorrow’s Leaders in Sustainability
The CSSPF supports selected student-driven, staff-supported sustainability projects such as pollinator gardens, green walls and roofs, renewable energy demonstrations, sustainable art projects, recycling competitions, tree plantings and more. Students learn to work with MSU and community partners, fostering their understanding of volunteerism while demonstrating how leadership happens at a local level. Through these immersive learning experiences, students develop leadership, collaboration and problem-solving skills that will propel them into their future careers. Your donation will support student-led projects that enhance the Spartan learning experience and better MSU’s campus while preparing the leaders of tomorrow.
The Campus Sustainability Student Projects Fund is administered by the MSU Office of Sustainability. As a pioneer land-grant university, sustainability has been part of Michigan State University’s mission since its founding in 1855. MSU is building the roadmap to a global and sustainable future by:
- Thinking systemically in problem solving and decision making;
- Acting as leaders in developing, demonstrating, and deploying sustainable practices and efficiencies;
- Inspiring others to take action to reduce their global carbon footprint and do their part in building a more resilient and sustainable economy.
We are here to help move MSU sustainability forward utilizing the framework of four pillars: Campus, Curriculum, Community, and Culture. We support, convene and collaborate with the extended Spartan family to embrace sustainable solutions. We mentor and support sustainability-minded students by seeking student input on sustainability planning and programs, while collaborating with them on projects. We drive innovative change to reduce MSU’s carbon footprint and build a campus that sustains future generations of Spartans. Our office puts MSU Sustainability in Action, helping students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners think sustainably, act sustainably, and inspire others to create a global sustainable future.
