LBC Learning Assistants Endowment Fund

Undergraduate Learning Assistants (ULAs) are core members of our teaching team at Lyman Briggs College. They assist faculty in providing an enriching and supported educational environment in LBC lectures, recitations, and labs. These motivated students provide personalized academic help for their peers in courses they have already taken. For this program, ULAs are interviewed and selected based on their ability to lead and help other classmates succeed. ULAs help to create a welcoming environment for inquiry and discussion.

These ULAs are one of the best resources to ensure the success of students, as they themselves likely experienced some of the same struggles as underclassmen.

Briggs is a residential college offering excellent instruction in small classes and ULAs are essential for providing personalized support. As one of our students shared recently:

“I cannot stress to you enough the impact this program has made on faculty, students and myself. Being online is already tough and exhausting for everyone faculty and students alike, and no other time did we need ULAs more than we need them now.”

Your support will allow Briggs to continue to provide personalized instruction through Undergraduate Learning Assistants, ensuring our students have the resources they need to succeed.

Undergraduate Learning Assistant positions are paid. Gifts to the undergraduate learning assistants fund will specifically help support the payroll for these student positions. Ongoing repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic have created a challenging virtual learning environment, so Briggs needs this program now more than ever. Undergraduate learning assistants are critical in creating a personalized learning environment at Briggs.

As another student shared:

“The learning assistant program is truly woven into the fabric of Briggs – it would be hard to imagine this college without it. Thank you for making this opportunity possible.”

In this virtual learning environment, personalized attention and access can make all the difference for student success. Please thoughtfully consider how a gift to this fund could significantly impact the success of our Briggsies.
