Connected Learning Fund:
Support Undergraduate Learning Assistants

Students teaching each other is a fulcrum of the Briggs experience. Each semester, 120+ Undergraduate Learning Assistants (ULAs) work as core members of the college teaching team. ULAs assist lectures, run their own labs, and lead a once-a-week class called a recitation, where they review material and offer personalized support to their peers.

This Give Green Day, invest in Undergraduate Learning Assistants.

ULAs reduce students’ feelings of isolation and help their peers gain confidence in their STEM knowledge. In turn, ULAs acquire invaluable leadership skills. They learn to give and receive feedback, solve problems in group settings, and generate ideas, setting the stage for a better understanding of real-world scenarios.

There are many students that rely on ULAs for help with classes because they prefer not to talk to the professor directly for whatever reason, and it is important that they have access to someone they feel comfortable with and who can act as an intermediary, if necessary.

For Lyman Briggs students, having a ULA is a great resource. They can act as an instructor, peer, friend, advisor, and more. We as ULAs can provide individual help with the course, share helpful information, from study habits to scheduling advice, and be a friendly face in the community. I think the ULAs are an integral part of the Briggs culture, and we do so much more than help out with classes.

What difference will you make?

Every dollar you give will directly support ULAs.

$70 – supports one ULA for a lab
$150 – supports one ULA for two weeks
$500 – supports pre-semester training and professional development for three students
$1,500 – supports one ULA for an entire semester
