MSU Community Music School – East Lansing

For over 30 years, the MSU Community Music School-East Lansing (CMS) has been transforming the lives of people of all ages and abilities through high-quality music education and music therapy. Out of the roughly 2,500 students served annually, one out of 12 need financial assistance to participate in CMS programming – many of whom are living on an average household income of $26,000 for a family of three. Each year, the need continues to grow.

GIVE MUSIC will help CMS offer financial assistance to more low-income students.

GIVE MUSIC to Those in Need

GIVE MUSIC will provide tuition assistance for low-income students and families at CMS. Every dollar makes a difference. A gift of $150 could provide music therapy sessions for a person with special needs, using the power of song to build verbal skills. A gift of $100 could help a child learn to play the violin in the beginning violin class while gaining life skills such as self-discipline, problem-solving, and socialization.

Who We Are

The MSU Community Music School-East Lansing is an outreach division of the MSU College of Music, established in 1993 to provide music lessons, ensembles, classes, and music therapy services to people of all ages and abilities in the Greater Lansing community. Music has proven to have a significant impact on individuals ranging from infancy to adulthood, and those with special needs in areas such as cognitive, social, behavioral, and physical development. For some, music has changed their lives.

CMS believes that all people should have the opportunity to experience such benefits offered through music and music therapy, and that money should not be a barrier. Committed to making music possible for everyone, CMS offers financial assistance to those in need.
