Michigan State University – Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)

MSU CAPS is the primary mental health center for MSU students. It is our goal to help connect every student to the care needed to be successful and healthy. We offer psychiatric services for students in need, but only the first three visits are subsidized (paid for by the university). Thus, any additional psychiatric visits require students, utilizing their health insurance, or paying out of pocket. For many students, this creates a potential barrier to treatment (e.g., some students do not have health insurance; others cannot afford even the co-payment even if they do have health insurance; and some students may choose to forgo services even if they do have health insurance because they do not want their parents to know they are receiving the help they need).

Support Counseling and Psychiatric Services

Funds will be used to pay for psychiatric care that is not funded by university allocations. A donation of $150 can pay for one visit to a psychiatrist for a student.
