Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)

MSU Counseling and Psychiatry Services (CAPS) functions as the primary mental health center for MSU students. Nationally, college students report high levels of anxiety and depression, and students at Michigan State University are no different. Stress is also a major impediment to academic success and can exacerbate depression and anxiety.

CAPS is committed to connecting students to the care they need to be academically successful and healthy, and we do so through the provision of virtual and in-person care

For our psychiatry patients, a laid off parent or loss of insurance coverage can be the difference between getting needed treatment and dropping out of school. We are doing everything we can to ensure students will continue to access the care they need and not have to shoulder the burden of additional costs. To do this requires additional resources. Your support today will allow us to continue supporting  Spartans in need.

Support Counseling and Psychiatric Services

  • $170 funds an additional psychiatric care session for students without insurance.
  • $500 funds care packages provided to students who need inpatient psychiatric hospitalization care.
  • $1500 funds swag items like stickers, stress balls, fidget tools and other items that remind students that supportive resources are available to them.
  • $2,000 funds CAPS Replenish program, a supportive monthly meeting for women of color focusing on mental health, relationships, movement, empowerment and more.

Who We Are

College is filled with excitement, learning, and new experiences. It is also a time when you will be challenged and may feel uncertain, lost, overwhelmed, or down.

We are here to help. CAPS is committed to providing and connecting you to a wide array of services and resources to address your concerns. These may include short-term individual counseling, group counseling, psychiatric care and medication, or referrals to other services.
