Mid-Michigan APS Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics

Support the Mid-Michigan APS CUWIPThe American Physical Society (APS) Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) aims to help undergraduate women continue in physics by providing them with the opportunity to experience a professional conference, information about graduate school and professions in physics, and access to other women in physics of all ages with whom they can share experiences, advice, and ideas.

This three-day program offers 180 young women in physics the opportunity to discover research opportunities, network with professionals who started in physics, develop a community of encouragement, explore strategies for navigating gender bias, and learn about various career options.

Your Support Will Make a Big Difference for Women in Science!

The aim of CUWiP is to support undergraduate women in physics, who are largely underrepresented in their field. The MSU 2019 CUWiP will give female physics majors experiences in networking, professional development workshops, panels about internships, imposter syndrome, graduate school, possible careers with a BS in physics, and more!

Project Budget

Your support will help cover food and lodging expenses for the women attending the conference. In order to keep the conference inclusive for everyone, we are working to make it as accessible as possible. The entire weekend (including housing, food, and all activities) hosted at the Kellogg Center will cost only $45 for each student, where the rest of the funding comes from sponsoring partners and donations. Your contributions will show these young women in physics that MSU and our wider community deeply cares about and supports their future goals and contributions to the scientific community.

Who We Are

The local organizing committee for the 2019 Mid-Michigan CUWiP is comprised of a large group of talented individuals ranging from undergraduates to full-time academic faculty members who are dedicated to the success of women in science. They have constructed a conference program including research talks by faculty, professional development workshops, panel discussions on topics such as careers and battling issues of diversity, intersectionality and bias, and discussions about women in science.
