MSU in the 313 Pre-College Summer Experience

MSU in the 313 Pre-College Summer Scholarships wants to make a world-class Michigan State University education a reality for Detroit area youth in grades 6–12. MSU Spartan Youth Programs offer middle school and high school students from across Michigan a chance to experience campus firsthand through a variety of college programs designed to highlight an array of subjects. There are summer programs that appeal to a variety of interests and include: Animal and Veterinary Science, Education, Engineering, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Medicine.

This project seeks to make MSU’s summer youth programs accessible to Detroit area youth by encouraging students to apply to residential summer programs and eliminating the financial barriers that make participation in these unique college residential learning experiences difficult. Once accepted to a program, youth will have the opportunity to both explore their subject area interests and to experience campus life and what it has to offer.

Students will also have access to college students who can share their knowledge and guide students in their preparation for the realities of college life.

We Need Your Support

We hope to raise $2,500 to help provide assistance with program fees for students and to provide full and partial program scholarships to 10–15 students who are successfully admitted to an MSU pre-college program of their choice. Program fees vary from $175 to $1,900 per camp. Programs include:

  • MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Multicultural Apprenticeship Program (MAP) and the ANR Institute for Multicultural Students (AIM)
  • MSU College of Education Summer High School Scholars Program
  • MSU College of Engineering High School Engineering Institutes
  • MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine OsteoCHAMPS
  • MSU Extension-4H Renewable Energy Camp; Animal & Veterinary Science Camp
  • MSU GATE (Gifted & Talented Education) CSI: Forensic Science Camp; Math, Science & Technology Camp (MST)

The MSU Detroit Center wants students to “Be what they can see!” by envisioning themselves on a college campus.

Your Support Will Make a Big Impact

Your support will make programs on campus available to students who may not think a university education is a reality. Pre-college programs make the idea of obtaining a college degree possible. Please support us with donations at any level.

Please take the opportunity to share this cause with your friends and family to help us get the word out and reach our fundraising goal.

“The ability of the program to combine learning with a fantastic social experience was purely remarkable. I really enjoyed almost everything about this camp.”

“I can’t pick one thing that I enjoyed most because it was a fantastic experience and I really don’t want to go home. I love all of the friends I made, the RAs, the nightly activities, and basically everything else.”
