MSU Pompon Team Builds a Community with Support from the Crowd

Clubs and intramural sports are one way many Spartans create a sense of belonging to a community within MSU’s expansive campus.

The 21 members of MSU’s Pompon team experience the thrill of performance, and hone discipline, dedication and time management skills—all while creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

But some parts of participation do not come cheaply. Last year 266 annual donors supported the hardworking team with gifts ranging from $5 to $1,000. The collective $15,445 raised helped defray the heavy costs of costumes, travel and competitions.

Heather Cone, MSU junior and a Pompon team leader, puts it this way:

I was inspired to do pompon after seeing the MSU team as a middle schooler. And now I am inspired again by some of those same former team members, who are part of the alumni and friends supporting us today. I can’t say thank you enough!
