Making college M.A.G.I.C.

MSU program thrives with support from Spartans

For 27 years, the M.A.G.I.C. program (which stands for Maximizing Academic Growth in College) has provided hundreds of incoming students—especially first-generation students and those coming from underserved communities—with the tools they need to achieve academic, cultural, professional and social success on campus … before their first semester even starts.

Annual support helps bridge the gap between the program’s budget and the rising costs associated with hosting the several hundred new Spartans M.A.G.I.C. brings to campus for two one-week sessions each summer. And thanks to donors, the program continues to grow, without raising the cost of attendance—which is just $50.

Last year, 83 donors contributed $7,335 to support M.A.G.I.C.

Jai Kozar-Lewis, MSU sophomore and summer 2022 M.A.G.I.C. attendee had this to say about his experience with M.A.G.I.C.:

I am so thankful I had the opportunity to attend M.A.G.I.C. It was a great experience to be able to be at MSU early and get acclimated to campus life. M.A.G.I.C. prepared me to start my college career and gave me all the tools I needed to succeed. When school started, my friends all asked, ‘How do you know so many people?’ And I just told them, ‘I went to M.A.G.I.C.!’
