Building up Spartan DEI funds and projects on Give Green Day

A place to call home. A place of belonging where diversity is celebrated and everyone has opportunities to learn, grow and contribute their unique abilities to the world. This is MSU – a vibrant, inclusive community where thousands of students, faculty and staff innovate and break through barriers each day. On Give Green Day, everyone can strengthen their vibrant Spartan community by giving to DEI funds and projects. Such resources help the university continue building up inclusive communities and supporting Spartan students.

MSU’s Diversity Research Network (DRN) is one of the CrowdPower and other online fundraising projects being supported by Spartans during MSU’s annual Give Green Day online fundraising campaign taking place on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. DRN’s goal is to link diverse scholars, particularly those underrepresented, and diversity scholars across disciplines and across the university, elevate the visibility of their work, and create an environment that is supportive of their recruitment, retention, and advancement in their careers.

“We support diversity scholars and diverse scholars,” Director Deborah Johnson says. “We were able to launch an awards program and provide small bits of funding to generate new work or help newer faculty initiate and build their research and scholarly programs. Over the past six years, we’ve had 65 scholars who have been launch award recipients.”

Donor support helps programs like the DRN grow and flourish, providing support for all. There is a lot of joy to be had in empowering our fellow Spartans, which Johnson attests to. “I love, love, love working with our talented faculty, and I love when we can see that our support makes a difference,” she says.

Your contribution on Give Green Day can make a difference for many Spartans.
