Student Pursues Love of Science at the Micro Level

“I’m passionate about science because I can see the world and discover why things happen the way they do.”

Growing up in Detroit, Lazarius Miller (’17) fell in love with science at an early age. Miller is a first-generation college student, Charles Drew Science Scholar and Dean’s Research Scholar at the College of Natural Science.

“I can honestly say that my experiences at MSU have been truly unique and extraordinary so far. I have grown personally, professionally and academically, more than I ever thought possible,” Miller said. “As Spartans, we’re taught to look for ways to improve and reach higher. Because of this community and its supporters, I know I will go further than I ever imagined.”

Miller is also passionate about science education and community, and dreams of returning to Detroit to teach. Once graduated, he plans to do just that.

What’s more? Thanks to scholarship support—plus lots of hard work—Miller will graduate debt-free in 2017.
