MSU’s Fourth Give Green Day Supports Spartans

Gifts to any of these causes will go right to work impacting the lives of MSU students and members of the larger MSU community.

Michigan State University’s annual day of giving will take place Dec. 3.

The 24-hour campaign, which coincides with Giving Tuesday, engages Spartans and friends across the world in giving back to support students at MSU.

This year, 31 projects and programs are seeking between $2,500 and $50,000 in support. All of MSU’s 18 colleges are participating, in addition to: MSU Safe Place; the Center for Survivors; the 4-H Foundation; Athletics; MSU Innovation Center; the Wharton Center for Performing Arts; both campus museums; MSU Libraries; and WKAR. Additionally, more than 60 alumni clubs will ask their members and friends to support club initiatives and scholarship funds. Donors also can support more than 30 CrowdPower projects that will be featured on givingto.msu.edu/crowdpower for Give Green Day.

Gifts to any of these causes will go right to work impacting the lives of MSU students and members of the larger MSU community.

On Give Green Day in 2018, more than 4,100 donors — 725 of whom were first-time donors — gave more than $788,000. Gifts ranged from $1 to $20,500 and came from as far away as Indonesia. More than 200 gifts came from students, more than 900 from friends of MSU and more than 2,800 from alumni.

Around the country, alumni clubs secured 786 gifts totaling $84,761 for their respective club scholarship fund. Those gifts help students from their communities as they begin at MSU.

Give Green Day provides an opportunity for students on campus to show their gratitude to donors. Tables will be set up at locations like the MSU Library and the International Center for students to write thank-you notes to MSU’s supporters.

Each year, Give Green Day falls on Giving Tuesday, a global day of philanthropy following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
