Five outstanding student poets representing colleges across MSU’s campus have been invited to participate in the 2017 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI). This is the first time MSU has had a team since 2007. We need your help to get them there.
CUPSI is a national spoken word poetry competition that brings student poets together from universities and colleges across the country. It provides the opportunity for participants to compete for top honors, network with other poets, and contribute their voices to the ever-growing world of slam poetry. CUPSI will be held this April 12-15, at the University of Chicago. The team needs your help to pay for transportation and lodging.
This project will get our MSU students to CUPSI in Chicago and give them the opportunity to represent the creativity of MSU students on the national stage. The team registration fee of $575 has been provided by the MSU Union Activities Board—we just need to get the students there and cover lodging.
Should this project exceed its goal, all additional funds will go toward supporting future spoken word events on campus, including next year’s CUPSI team.
The money raised will make it possible for five students to attend CUPSI in Chicago. The funds will go toward four nights of hotel lodging ($770) and transportation, including train fare to and from Chicago and ground transportation in Chicago ($350). Students will pay for their own meals.
The team was chosen to represent MSU in the qualifying slam competition held in November 2016. Their poetry reflects a diverse range of subjects, viewpoints, and experiences.
