The MSU Formula Racing Team represents Michigan State University's entry into the a collegiate design series, a competition sanctioned by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Our team is an entirely extra-curricular and student-run organization that is open to all majors and class-levels. Each year, our team is tasked with the challenge of funding, designing, manufacturing, and racing a small, open-wheel racecar.
Formula SAE provides an incredible learning experience by challenging us to develop a competitive and innovative racecar from initial concept through final system validation. The knowledge and hands-on experiences gained through Formula SAE provides invaluable benefits for every member’s future career and life.
Specifically, we are looking for donations to cover expenses for competition. This year we will be traveling to two competitions: FSAE-Michigan and FSAE-Nebraska. With this year’s full redesign, more components and materials had to be purchased. This being said, funds for our trips to competition are low, so we need your help! We invite you to support us on our journey to FSAE-Michigan, held at Michigan International Speedway, and FSAE-Nebraska, at the Lincoln Airpark.
We will be commuting back and forth between our shop in Okemos, MI, and MIS each day of competition. This will total approximately 1,825 miles of travel. When we head to Nebraska later in June, we will travel about 7,270 miles. Lodging expenses for our entire team of 23 are also incorporated into the trip to Nebraska.
Additional funds raised will help to cover the cost of tires for competition and testing. This support allows the team to add additional testing time, which helps to better prepare our car for competition. If we exceed our target, the donations will go towards purchasing a new engine for our 2015-2016 racecar.
Your support is what truly makes this invaluable learning experience possible. Please support us with any amount you can. Every dollar will help us hit our target of $5,000! As an entity of Michigan State University, all donations to our program are tax-exempt under U.S. tax laws.
