Great Lakes Folk Festival Produced by the MSU Museum
The Michigan State University Museum presents the Great Lakes Folk Festival (GLFF), August 12-14, showcasing our country’s rich heritage through music, dance, crafts, storytelling, games and food.
Festival-goers can take in a tremendous variety of traditional music —from blues to bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, salsa, swing and polka rhythms— performed by the country’s finest musicians and dancers.
In addition, the GLFF offers a Folk Arts Marketplace, Children’s Folk Activities Area, and Michigan Heritage Awards honoring tradition-bearers in arts and culture.
Help Transform East Lansing Into a Living Museum Exhibit of Expressive Culture!
This is one of only a handful of events across the country that bring together the diverse cultures, traditions and expressions that expand awareness of our collective cultural heritage.
Your contribution helps support one of the most visible and vibrant ways the MSU Museum can showcase the immense depth and variety of art, skill, knowledge and wisdom of traditional arts and tradition-bearers.
Support the Diverse Music Program for the 2016 GLFF
The Great Lakes Folk Festival is supported by the generosity of donors and sponsors. We rely on these sources to keep the festival, culturally diverse and truly accessible to all visitors with admission by donation. Funds raised through this effort will go directly into producing a rich and exciting music program on our three main performance stages during the three day festival.
Who We Are
Michigan State University Museum and its Michigan Traditional Arts Program (MTAP) staff work to advance cross-cultural understanding in a diverse society through the identification, documentation, preservation and presentation of traditional arts and cultural heritage.
With the help of our donors and sponsors, we have produced the Great Lakes Folk Festival in Downtown East Lansing every August for the past 15 years. Thank you.
